Urban Decay Smoked Palette: Swatches & Review

Hi guys! Today I wanted to show you the new Urban Decay Smoked Palette that was released a few weeks ago. It is currently available on the Urban Decay website if you live in the U.S. If, like me, Urban Decay don't ship to your country you can find this palette on eBay but it is for a higher price.

The Smoked Palette is Urban Decays response to the success of the Naked Palettes, "The biggest thing since Naked". It retails for $49 in the US and comes with ten eyeshadows, a mini primer potion, fullsize 24/7 liner in Perversion and a booklet with a bunch of different looks you can achieve with this palette.

*Photo by Temptalia* - I couldn't for the life of me geta half decent photo of the outside packaging sorrry!

See closeups, swatches & Review after the jump!

Kinky (NEW)
Kinky is a pale matte vanilla sort of shade with a pinky undertone. In comparison to Foxy from the Naked2 palette they are similar in shade, but Foxy has a much more yellow undertone. This shade was super soft and decently pigmented for such a light colour. It almost is the colour of my skin.

Freestyle (NEW)
Freestyle is a matte warm skin tone shade, I find this pulls very orange on me with its peachy undertone. That said, it is a great colour to blend darker shades out which is essential for the smokey look. This shade was very buttery and soft, love it.

Mushroom (Permanent)
Mushroom medium shimmery taupe shade, From swatches I had previously seen, this colour looked a lot more grey. However when swatched it is evident it is a taupe. A suprising love from this palette as I was most apprehensive, I tend not to like grey eyeshadow. Very pigmented as well.

 Backdoor (NEW)
Backdoor is a matte dark espresso brown. This is the colour I hoped would be in the Naked Palette! A Really great crease colour! Decently pigmented.

Blackout (Permenant)
We've all seen Blackout (Matte Black) before but what would a smokey palette be without it! Matte Black, decently pigmented but I have always found this shade a little patchy even over primer.

Barlust (NEW)
Barlust is a shimmer brown shade with extremely strong red undertones making it appear copper in some lights. It is a really interesting shade. Not disimilar to Snakebite from Naked2 but it is a lot warmer with the red undertones. Very pigmented.

Rockstar (Permenant)
Rockstar is a dark eggplanty purple shimmer. Good pigmentation and texture. It's a lot more purple than Busted from Naked2.

Evidence (Permenant)
Evidence is a deep sapphire blue shimmery shade leaning navy. I was dissapointed in this one, while it wasn't bad by any means it was not as pigmented as any of the others. I wish the blue jewel tone showed through a lot more.

Loaded (Permenant)
Loaded is a dark forest green shimmer. Excellent texture and pigmentation. This would make such a beautiful smokey eye, I really have to try it!

 Asphalt (NEW)
Asphalt is a gunmental grey shimmer. It had a smooth texture and decent pigmentation but again not as good as the others. Gunmetal from Naked1 is similar but a bit more silvery metallic sheen.

Urban Decay Primer Potion
Along with the ten eyeshadows and pencil you get a mini sized UDPP with the smoked palette. This is just the 'original' shade that is pretty much just a flesh colour, but quite sheer. I do like this primer, but I prefer Too Faced Shadow Insurance.

24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil - Perversion
This is an amazing eyeliner! Part of their permenant collection. It is so super smooth and pigmented with some awesome staying power. love love love. & what's even better is that this is full size!

L-R:  KINKY, FREESTYLE, MUSHROOM, BACKDOOR, BLACKOUT (All over UDPP)

L-R: BARLUST, ROCKSTAR, EVIDENCE, LOADED, ASPHALT (All over UDPP)

KINKY, FREESTYLE, MUSHROOM, BACKDOOR, BLACKOUT, BARLUST, ROCKSTAR, EVIDENCE, LOADED, ASPHALT

What I liked:
- Good selection of colours!
- Most had amazing texture and colour payoff.
- Full Size eyeliner!

What I didn't like
- Not 100% sold on the zip up packaging, I think I would just prefer it to be magnetic
- Evidence (blue) was dissapointing colour payoff.

Things to consider when purchasing
- Five of these colours are from the UD permenant line (Mushroom, Blackout, Rockstar, Evidence & Loaded) and have appeared in other palettes, so check your stash!
- If you live outside the U.S. you probably will have to get it from ebay where it is sold above RRP of $49.

  1. Great review, I have heard so many good things about this palette. But i'm not 100% sure if I should purchase it or not - the packaging definitely has put me off. The eyeshadows look amazing though! :)

  2. Thanks for the review and photos. I was thinking about getting this, but the colors are so dark overall that I just don't think I would use it enough.
